URARA Symposium 2025 Kanab Convention Center |
1. Carol Patterson will hold a two-hour workshop that combines hands-on drawing techniques and computer graphics to trace professional photographs of petroglyph panels as a method of documenting sites. There is a $5.00 fee for taking this workshop to pay for supplies that you will be given and can keep. This workshop will be held in the Inchworm Classroom at the Convention Center.
2. Dave Manley will hold a half-day basic rock art photography workshop to help capture rock art in its setting. His aim is to guide people to find their own way of seeing through the lens. This workshop will be held in the Buckskin Classroom at the Convention Center.
3. Robert Mark will hold a half-day +/- workshop on Photogrammetry in general and Photogrammetric drone mapping in particular. If you are interested in taking this class, it would help him if you would let him know about your interests and experiences with drones, photogrammetry and GIS. He can send out some software and other links in advance. Only contact him if you will be taking his class. His e-mail is rkmark@mac.com. This workshop will be held in the Cascade Classroom at the Convention Center.
4. Troy Scotter and Kent Williams will introduce a small app that records site information and replaces our use of the paper SHPO form. We are going to split the workshop into a morning and an afternoon session.
Coral Classroom at the Convention Center
Morning 8:30-11:00: Site Recording using the URARA Short Form on the Survey 123 app.
This workshop will cover how to record sites using the Survey123 app when any member is out on their own field excursions or while on URARA sponsored field trips. This is an easy-to-use app that asks a few questions about the site, including if there is any vandalism, and includes taking photographs with the app.
There will be a short orientation in a classroom setting for attendees to download the app. We will go over the purpose of URARA site recording and how the information is being used. This will be followed by a practice session outside. Please make sure to bring your cell phones.
Afternoon 1:00-5:00: This workshop is intended for URARA Conservation Coordinators who are involved with Section 106 consultations with the BLM and our efforts to move site information (URARA Red Dots) into the official record. In a classroom setting, we will review our process for responding to consulting invitations with an eye for improvement. We will also review site information collection with the Survey123 and Field Maps apps. There will be time to download the apps.
After the classroom session, we will visit a nearby site where we will go over data collection using the apps. Please make sure to bring your cell phones.
